On June 9, 2024, at 11:18 PM, Taiwanese and Hong Kong citizens, along with civil groups, organized a march in front of Freedom Square in Taipei to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Anti-Extradition Movement urging attention to the situation in Hong Kong. Triggered by the 2019 proposed extradition bill in Hong Kong, the movement saw millions protesting on the streets that year, leading to global attention. Although the bill was withdrawn, subsequent actions by Beijing authorities have tightened control, impacting the promised 'One Country, Two Systems' principle. At the Taipei event, nearly 600 participants joined, advocating for continued awareness of the Hong Kong situation and supporting political prisoners. The Mainland Affairs Council responded positively, reaffirming its support for Hong Kong policies and citizens, also ensuring safety and support for Hong Kong people in Taiwan.
