In 2017, a 38-year-old nurse named Li died suddenly in her dormitory due to acute myocardial infarction. Her family claimed that her irregular and long working hours in the hospice ward of Taipei Medical University Hospital led to her overexertion, causing her death. The family sought compensation of 7.32 million NT dollars, but the court ruled in favor of the hospital in the second instance, stating there was no evidence of excessive work pressure. The court highlighted that the events leading to her death did not meet the criteria for work-related injuries or occupational diseases, allowing the hospital to avoid compensation. The case can still be appealed.
