Taipei MRT Accident Investigation Report Released by Transportation Safety Committee

The Transportation Safety Committee released an investigation report regarding a serious accident on the Taipei MRT that occurred last year, where a construction crane struck a train car causing 1 death and 15 injuries. The committee made 6 recommendations for improvement and also revealed footage from inside the train car at the time of the incident, urging Taipei MRT to enhance their emergency braking measures. The committee highlighted the need to improve the authorization mechanism and emergency braking procedures, noting that the time taken for a staff member to unlock and press the emergency button was 15 seconds, while the reaction time was only 12 seconds. Recommendations were also made for other entities like construction units to comply with safety regulations, and the labor department to establish guidelines for crane dismantling operations.
