On July 1, 2024, Taipei Municipal Hospital in Taoyuan experienced a major system crash in its internal computers and registration system due to a 10-second power outage caused by a voltage drop from Taiwan Power. This incident led to manual registration and potential damage to large medical equipment. Despite accusations that Taiwan Power's unstable supply endangered lives in Taoyuan, Minister of Economic Affairs Guo Zhihui reiterated that it was a power surge, not a power shortage. The incident has raised concerns about emergency power supply in medical institutions and the impact of frequent power outages on healthcare operations.
