With the onset of the sixth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Taipei National University Hospital's crowded emergency department, with patients overflowing into the lobby, has sparked discussions. The hospital's director clarified that the congestion in the emergency department is a daily occurrence, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays, and is not solely a result of the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Various factors contribute to this situation, which includes an increasing number of elderly patients with severe conditions seeking urgent care. Implementing a triage system and improving long-term planning are suggested as solutions for the overcrowding issue.
