A former National Taiwan University graduate resorted to threatening to poison a popular fast-food chain store in order to extort 300,000 NT dollars due to financial difficulties. Following reports of threats received by the chain's official website, police started an investigation and identified the suspect based on online leads, revealing her to be a high-achieving female NTU graduate who had worked in a public institution. The suspect, who admitted to taking risks due to financial hardships, was charged with attempted extortion. The case, which posed a significant threat to public health, led to her arrest in New Taipei City after digital forensics traced the threatening messages to her location. Further details from the investigation revealed she was the one threatening to poison the food. The suspect was indicted for attempted extortion after questioning by prosecutors.
