Taipei's First Bus Theft Case: Driver Leaves Bus to Urinate Without Removing Key, Bus Gets Stolen

On June 24, 2024, at 10:15 PM, a suspect identified as Zhang Guixiang got on a bus and drove it away after the driver left the bus unattended for a short restroom break, leaving the keys inside. The Metropolitan Transport Corporation encountered its first bus theft incident when a woman took advantage of the opportunity and drove the vehicle away. Fortunately, the bus had a GPS tracker, leading to its recovery within half an hour. The police are currently searching for the suspect, and the case is being investigated for theft. The suspect, a woman in her 40s with a history of theft, abandoned the bus about a kilometer away and fled the scene. The authorities are considering penalizing the company for potential negligence in key management after reviewing the incident's details.
