Franciscan High School in Taipei held its last graduation ceremony today, signaling the official end of its long history at the end of July. Established in 1965, the private Franciscan High School has seen many notable alumni such as Hsinchu City Mayor Gao Hongan and musician Liang Hongzhi. Due to declining birth rates, the initially planned cessation of enrollment in 2023 evolved into a closure. While the closure announcement was sudden and the graduation ceremony limited to around one hundred high school and junior high school graduates with no alumni invited, Principal Hu Chia-chiang has promised to support all students in completing their studies and providing necessary resources. Despite its closure, the school boasts that over 90% of its high school students successfully gain admission to top universities in Taiwan like National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, and National Taiwan Normal University, while some junior high students also enter prestigious schools. The rich history of Franciscan High School will be digitized for future generations to cherish, and efforts are being made to ensure the smooth transition of staff to other schools or positions.
