On July 4, 2024, a taxi in Taipei's Da'an District lost control for unknown reasons, crashing into the sidewalk and hitting two YouBike riders, with the driver later succumbing to injuries after being rushed to the hospital without regaining consciousness. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation by the police. The 67-year-old male driver lost control and struck the sidewalk, injuring the two riders, one Taiwanese and one German national, while getting trapped between a building pillar and a tree. The police and rescue personnel were called in to assist in extracting the driver from the vehicle. The injured riders suffered multiple abrasions and were also sent to the hospital for treatment.
