In the early morning of June 8, 2024, a large number of tourists heading to Green Island during the Dragon Boat Festival long weekend crowded the ferry waiting room at Taitung's Fugang Fishing Port. The privately operated ticket reservation system 'Boat Travel Network' for traveling to and from islands in Taitung was hacked, with all reservation lists disappearing. While tourists who booked tickets through travel agencies and guesthouses still had proof for ticket collection, independent travelers needed to obtain their tickets through on-site assistance from operators. Despite the incident, the situation at the port was relatively smooth with additional staff managing ticketing for the 20 scheduled ferry trips, including a rare luxury yacht docking at the port. This incident may also hint at potential developments in Taitung's maritime tourism.
