Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang, former Mayor of Taoyuan City and current Chairman of the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation, was summoned by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for alleged involvement in corruption cases. After a hearing, it was recognized that Cheng may have committed bribery in the performance of his duties, a serious crime which led to a request for detention and no visitation. The Presidential Office and the Executive Yuan have responded to the situation by expressing respect for the judiciary and urging for a timely clarification of the facts.
