On June 22, 2024, the chairman of the New Taipei Kings, Wang Wen-hsiang, announced the merger of Taiwan's two major basketball leagues, PLG and T1, forming a new integrated league after discussions with various team owners and businesses. With 10 teams already expressing their intent to join the new league, which aims to enhance the players' stage, strengthen the credibility of the games, and professionalize league operations, this move comes after three years of both leagues' significant growth and success in attracting over 3 million fans to live games. Wang emphasized that this merger is not a third league, but a consolidation of resources to further boost Taiwan's basketball scene.
