Taiwan Blood Bank Faces Shortage with Only 4.9 Days of Supply Left; Blood Donation Centers Implement Reduced Supply

Reported about 1 year ago

Recent factors such as the resurgence of COVID-19, hot weather, and the summer vacation period have led to a significant decrease in blood donations in Taiwan, resulting in blood bank supplies reaching only 4.9 days of inventory left, with Taipei and Taichung at 4.6 days and Kaohsiung at 4.2 days. A and O blood types are particularly in high demand. Blood donation centers have initiated reduced supply to medical facilities and are urging the public to donate blood actively, as the safe storage level of blood should ideally be maintained between 7 to 10 days, with 4 to 7 days considered low and less than 4 days as critical shortage.
