Taiwan Cement's Battery Plant Molicel Receives Dual Green Building Certifications

Reported 8 months ago

Taiwan Cement's lithium battery brand, Molicel, subsidiary San Yuan Energy Technology's factory in Kaohsiung received both the LEED certification from the United States and the EEWH certification from Taiwan for green buildings, becoming Taiwan's first high-end lithium battery plant to achieve green building status. The factory significantly reduced carbon emissions by 7%, shortened construction time by at least 50 days, and lowered waste and dust. It also adopted energy-efficient air conditioning systems, process heat recovery system, and energy-saving measures, reducing energy consumption by over 42%. Additionally, the use of self-developed EnergyArk energy storage cabinets further enhances green energy utilization, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 1,400 tons annually. The plant also emphasized water conservation, achieving over 30% daily water savings by using recycled rainwater for flushing and irrigation. Native trees and plants were extensively planted to increase carbon sequestration by 50%. Climate resilience measures included underground flood detention tanks, reflective roof surfaces, and extensive rooftop greening to combat urban heat island effects. The plant also prioritized resource recycling with over 75% waste recycling rate and 15% increase in green materials usage compared to conventional buildings, reducing harmful emissions like formaldehyde and TVOCs.
