A recent incident involved a Chinese coast guard ship getting too close to Taiwan-registered fishing boats, prompting the Taiwan Coast Guard Ship 'Taichung' to intercept and protect the fishing boats from interference and inspection risks. Despite initial reports of the Taichung ship requesting Penghu fishing boats to leave to avoid conflict escalation, the Coast Guard clarified that they were safeguarding the national fishing boats' safety and monitoring the situation until the Chinese coast guard ship left the area. The region near the Taiwan Strait has been designated as a key patrol area, with an emphasis on law enforcement and protection, urging fishermen to call 118 Coast Guard Service hotline for immediate assistance in case of emergencies at sea.
