On June 11, 2024, the New Taiwan Dollar took a steep dive of close to two dimes during intraday trading, ending at 32.395 yuan, depreciating 1.45 dimes or 0.45%, marking the largest single-day decline in two months and ending a six-day winning streak with a total trading volume of 18.495 billion USD. The decline is attributed to the outflow of foreign funds and investment trusts. The market volatility following the Dragon Boat Festival holiday saw the currency depreciate due to the weakening of major Asian currencies overall, with the USD gaining strength and foreign investors pulling out of Taiwan stock markets.
