As Taiwan faces a declining birth rate, the Ministry of Education has forecasted a significant drop in the primary school student population, with numbers expected to dip below one million by the 118th academic year and decrease to 779,000 by the 128th academic year, representing an average annual decrease of 2.8% or about 29,000 students. This trend is also reflected in junior high, high school, and university student populations, with an estimated average annual decline in the coming 16 years.
