Greenpeace reports at least 100 temporary garbage sites in Taiwan, with 60 near schools and 8 near water source protection areas; the country had accumulated 840,000 tonnes of packaged temporary waste by the end of last year. Taiwan will close 18 elementary schools in the coming academic year due to declining birth rates, with one school in Penghu offering plane tickets for enrollment as it has only 2 students. The government will continue to allocate 300 billion annually for the rent subsidy program to support a million tenants.
