Taiwan Executive Yuan Amends 22 Articles of Fire Law to Increase Occupational Safety Chapter for Firefighters and Expand Scope of Whistleblowers in Hazardous Material Sites

On June 13, 2024, the Executive Yuan approved amendments to the Fire Law to enhance the safety of firefighters by adding an occupational safety chapter. The amendments include penalties for companies failing to disclose information related to fire personnel, with fines up to 10 million NTD, and criminal liability of up to 7 years for incidents caused by lack of self-management. Additionally, a new chapter focusing on the safety and health of firefighters was introduced to ensure their well-being while on duty, aiming to create a safer working environment. The amendments also expanded the range of people eligible to blow the whistle on hazardous material sites and increased penalties for non-compliance in fire protection and disaster plans, emphasizing the importance of public safety and occupational health for firefighters.
