As the COVID-19 situation escalates in Taiwan, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung cautioned that the peak of infections is anticipated to surpass 100,000 cases in mid-July. However, he emphasized that there would be no reinstatement of mask mandates or a return to Level 3 restrictions. The current surge, classified as the sixth wave, is projected to last for two months, with most cases mild. The country is currently dealing with the predominant JN.1 variant, accounting for 62% of cases, and efforts are being made to address shortages of medication, intravenous fluids, and hospital beds amidst the crisis.
