Eyeglasses have become a common accessory in Taiwan, where myopia is prevalent, and those without nearsightedness are in the minority. Ophthalmologist Lin Yi-Hong noted that Taiwan has the highest myopia population globally, with over a quarter having myopia exceeding 500 degrees. He cautions that individuals with myopia higher than 800 degrees are at risk of developing four eye conditions: early-onset cataracts, retinal detachment, myopic macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Lin emphasizes the importance of regular eye check-ups to detect and treat eye diseases early on.
