Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued a warning that the sixth wave of Omicron COVID-19 outbreak is expected to peak in mid-July, with the weekly confirmed cases possibly reaching 100,000. As the epidemic enters a plateau phase, the start of the new school year in September could further escalate the situation. A recent surge in purchases of epidemic prevention supplies such as masks, rapid test kits, and alcohol has been observed, with mask sales increasing by as much as 50%. The country is currently grappling with three major viruses – COVID-19, influenza, and adenovirus, causing a high number of medical consultations. The weakening efficacy of vaccines due to virus mutations, combined with frequent population movements during summer vacation, has significantly raised the risk of epidemic transmission and spurred a surge in the purchase of epidemic prevention supplies.
