With the increasing severity of global warming and climate change, Taiwan may face the absence of winter in the future. According to a research fellow at the Environmental Change Center of the Academia Sinica, if global warming can be controlled within 2 degrees Celsius, winter may be reduced to only 40 to 50 days. The impacts of extreme weather and water scarcity have led to a drastic decrease in orange juice production in places like Florida and Brazil, resulting in soaring prices. Climate change is also affecting food crops in Taiwan, with predictions of longer and hotter summers, leading to a decrease in rice and corn production. The consequences of climate change also include rising food prices and challenges in sustaining energy loads on the island.
