According to a news report by Deutsche Welle on July 6, 2024, Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member and chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsang, was arrested on corruption charges and granted bail at NTD 5 million by the Taoyuan District Court. The court restricted his movements and contact with related individuals. The court dismissed the prosecutor's request for pretrial detention, citing lack of evidence on the alleged bribery and leaking of information, but the prosecution has filed an appeal. Cheng, who denied wrongdoing, is cooperating with the investigation as the Presidential Office spokesman emphasized respect for judicial process and urged a swift clarification of the truth.
