President Lai Ching-te's discourse on cross-strait relations was criticized as advocating the 'new two-state theory,' but there have been recent adjustments in the Mainland Affairs Council's (MAC) rhetoric. MAC Minister Qiu Chuizheng recently interpreted Lai's remarks as 'cross-strait relations are cross-strait relations,' and MAC Vice Minister Liang Wenjie clarified, 'Of course, it is cross-strait relations.' The government emphasizes adherence to the Republic of China Constitution and relevant laws in handling cross-strait affairs, maintaining the stance has not changed.
