Taiwan Government's Anti-Fraud Efforts Pay Off: 41 Criminal Network Locations Dismantled, Over 170 Million Confiscated

Since President Lai Ching-te took office on May 20, the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office's dedicated anti-fraud team has successfully cracked down on telecom fraudsters. In their first wave of operations, a total of 25 telecom fraud dens and 16 money laundering hubs were uncovered, leading to the confiscation of 177.49 million NT dollars, 16 pieces of real estate, and 10 vehicles. From May 24 to June 14, 2024, 115 cases were prosecuted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, resulting in the interrogation of 540 individuals, while the Investigation Bureau handled 45 cases, searched 60 locations, and interrogated 208 individuals. The crackdown efforts have achieved a 125% success rate in dismantling telecom fraud networks, with over 2253 cases uncovered from June 2023 to May 2024. The approach includes stringent asset seizure and return policies to compensate victims and ensure justice.
