Taiwan Increases Military Spending in Response to Trump

Reported 3 days ago

Taiwan has proposed a military budget of NT$949.5 billion ($31.2 billion) for 2026, a nearly 23% increase from last year, aimed at addressing President Trump's demands for greater self-defense capability against China. This budget includes new provisions for the Coast Guard and veteran pensions and raises military spending to 3.32% of Taiwan's economic output, surpassing a previous target. However, the final amount will depend on legislative approval, which may face challenges from opposition parties.
