On June 27, 2024, Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) issued an orange travel alert for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau due to China's recent announcement of 22 measures to punish Taiwan independence, including the possibility of capital punishment. MAC Vice Chairman Liang Wen-chieh emphasized that this alert is a precautionary measure and urged people to avoid non-essential travel to these regions. The move comes in response to escalating tensions between Taiwan and China following the controversial measures, with Taiwan's government increasing its warning level to protect its citizens traveling to China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
