The Taiwan Journalist Association has issued a 5-point declaration and 3-point appeal regarding the proposed amendment to the Satellite Broadcasting and Television Law by the Kuomintang and the People's Party. The proposed amendment includes allowing news stations to operate indefinitely without license renewal and continuing operations of previously suspended TV stations until litigation judgments are finalized. The association criticizes the Blue and White coalition for pushing a contradictory and absurd law with potentially severe consequences, claiming it would eliminate the mechanism for eliminating low-quality channels, benefit existing operators indefinitely, and greatly impact future cable TV news stations' content control.
