During a city council meeting in Taichung on June 18, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) city councilors accused the head of the civil service examination committee, Liu Yan-feng, of interfering in the DPP's legislator primary election. The Nationalist Party legislator Hsu Hsin-shang accused a DPP legislator, Lai Hui-yuan, of plagiarism in a thesis in May last year. It was later revealed that related information had been passed on by Hsu Hsin-shang's husband, Liu Yan-feng, leading to criticism from the DPP. The DPP councilors demanded a swift investigation, questioning Liu Yan-feng's alleged violation of administrative neutrality.
