During a legislative session, a proposal by Kuomintang legislator Chen Xuesheng to amend the Outlying Islands Development Act to allow for the introduction of Chinese investment was criticized by Democratic Progressive Party legislator Shen Bao-yang. Shen expressed concerns that the proposal essentially opens the door for Chinese companies to enter Taiwan, highlighting four key points of contention. Shen argued that the proposal is more alarming than the establishment of free economic pilot zones, as it could weaken Taiwanese sovereignty and security measures.
