Taiwan Mayor of Taoyuan City, Zheng Wen-Can, was implicated in a corruption scandal with allegations emerging from a report by 'Mirror Weekly' on July 9th, 2024. An investigation revealed that in September 2017, the son of white-gloved Liao Chun-Song was intercepted discussing delivering 5 million NTD to Zheng's official residence. The son was later caught on camera entering and leaving Zheng's residence with a seemingly hefty black bag, and upon dropping the bag while gesturing '5' to Zheng, the Mayor responded with a smile. Despite denying bribery accusations, Zheng was arrested due to suspicions surrounding the exchange of money with Liao's son. In the ongoing investigation, another party, Yang Zhao-Lin, also denies involvement in the bribery scheme. Yang, a former high-ranking executive with considerable influence, has a long-standing career with major financial institutions.
