Taiwan Ministry of Transportation to Implement New Law Allowing Swap of Short-Term Driving Licenses for High-Risk Drivers Based on Severity of Violations

The Taiwan Ministry of Transportation has announced a new amendment to the traffic regulations that will allow high-risk drivers to exchange their regular licenses for 1, 2, 3, or 6-year short-term licenses based on the severity of their traffic violations. These changes are expected to be finalized by July this year and implemented three months after. The amendment also includes provisions for undergoing road safety courses and paying fines, with a mandatory observation period of 6 years. Additionally, elderly drivers over 75 years old are required to undergo physical exams every 3 years for license renewal, while emphasizing the importance of abiding by traffic safety rules for all drivers.
