Taiwan Needs Large Number of Drones for National Defense, But Production Line Controlled by China

Reported 8 months ago

Ukrainian forces using drones in the Russo-Ukrainian war are products of China's DJI. In light of this, Taiwan is seen as needing a large stockpile of affordable drones to prepare for a potential conflict in the Taiwan Strait. However, the majority of drone production lines globally are in China, posing a dilemma for Taiwan's defense establishment and manufacturers. The key lies in whether to increase production costs significantly to achieve self-sufficiency or slowly accumulate production capability. Despite the different strategic challenges faced by Taiwan and Ukraine, the need for a vast number of inexpensive drones for frontline troops is crucial to provide valuable reconnaissance intelligence.
