Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Vestas has brought its heavy construction vessel, the 4,000-ton 'Giant,' to Taiwan to kick off offshore wind power construction. The vessel arrived recently and ceremonies were held to mark the start of the offshore wind power project for Taiwan Power Company's second phase. The project will involve underwater piling, jacket foundation installation, turbine blade, and tower installation. This significant milestone signifies MHI Vestas as the exclusive contractor for Taiwan’s first locally undertaken offshore wind project, entering the substantial phase of maritime construction. With a capacity of 294.5MW upon completion, the project will generate 1 billion kilowatt hours of green electricity annually, equivalent to the power usage of nearly 240,000 households per year and reducing carbon emissions by about 500,000 tons annually.
