People recently reported on social media that Kiribati, a former South Pacific diplomatic ally of Taiwan, does not recognize Taiwan passports and thus denies visas to Taiwanese travelers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not received an official notification from the Kiribati government regarding a change in their stance on Taiwan passports, but has advised against traveling to Kiribati due to unclear policies. The ministry stated that mutual visa-free entry between the two countries ended after the diplomatic relations were terminated in 2019. It is recommended that people carefully plan their trips and temporarily avoid traveling to Kiribati.
