Taiwan Politician Criticized for Comparing Lai Ching-te to Hitler, Green Party Strikes Back Against Ko Wen-je's Authoritarian Mindset

Reported 8 months ago

Democratic Progressive Party spokesperson Dai Wei-shan stated that it is not the first time for a president to seek constitutional interpretation and temporary disposition according to constitutional procedures. The chairperson of the People First Party, Ko Wen-je, comparing this to Nazi Hitler is an insult to Taiwan's democracy. Dai pointed out Ko Wen-je had claimed to be Emperor five times, showing his deeply-rooted authoritarian mindset, urging Ko to respect constitutional procedures and democratic values. Regarding allegations by Ko Wen-je and the People First Party caucus leader Huang Kuo-chang that Lai Ching-te 'promised to accept national questioning before the election and then turned his back on people after being elected,' Dai clarified that national reports and consultations are different from national questioning. She criticized the legislative majority’s potential constitutional violations by obligating the President to give national reports at the Legislative Yuan and allow one-on-one questioning of the President, disrupting the constitutional order.
