Reported about 1 year ago
On July 6, 2024, former Mayor of Taoyuan City and Chairman of the Prospect Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsan, was taken in by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office for alleged corruption. After being questioned for over 16 hours, he was reported to be detained and off-limits by the prosecutors early on the 6th. This has sparked discussions, with Taipei City Councilor You Shuhui from the KMT expressing her view. She mentioned a prior occasion where the cabinet team did not see Cheng Wen-tsan, quoting 'It's not that he wasn't used, but that they dare not use him.' With Cheng being detained, she urged the Taoyuan City government to cooperate with the investigation to thoroughly examine the multibillion-dollar land reclassification cases from the past 8 years. The details of the case are yet to be disclosed post the detention hearing by the Taoyuan prosecutors.
