Amid recent power outages across Taiwan and concerns over a possible electricity shortage in July due to high summer demand, Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) has reassured the public that there is no shortage of electricity in Taiwan. As nuclear reactor unit 1 at the third nuclear power plant is set to be decommissioned at the end of July, Taipower has planned to replace it with a larger capacity turbine at the Tatan Power Plant, along with the return of maintenance units and an increase in renewable energy supply. Taipower estimates that the peak reserve capacity rate for July will be maintained at 10% and 7% during the day and night peaks, respectively, by utilizing various power generation strategies. Additionally, Taipower will introduce additional private power supply from the Fengda Power Plant and implement flexible measures such as energy storage, time-of-use pricing, and demand response to ensure adequate power supply during peak periods.
