Taiwan Power Company Clarifies Concerns Over Power Supply Amid Activation of Diesel Units at Nuclear Power Plant

Reported 8 months ago

As summer approaches and Unit 1 of the Nuclear Power Plant Three is set to be decommissioned at the end of July, concerns over electricity shortages arise among the public. Some residents even noticed the activation of diesel units at the plant and water discharge for hydropower generation, leading to worries about insufficient electricity supply. Taiwan Power Company responded by stating that the reserve capacity rate during peak hours was above 10% the previous night, indicating a stable supply. The company assured that the activation of turbine generators at nuclear plants is a routine operation and urged against unnecessary panic. Additionally, the company emphasized the priority of water usage for daily life and agriculture over hydropower generation, ensuring a steady water supply downstream for regular usage without affecting water resources or daily water needs.
