During a tense shareholder meeting, Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) announced losses of nearly 200 billion NT dollars, leading to shareholders' outrage as the company continues to experience consecutive losses while still offering a year-end bonus equivalent to 4.4 months' salary. Shareholders, who have not received dividends for almost 20 years, are calling for Chairman Weng Ming-Sheng to step down. However, Weng emphasized efforts to break even this year due to a hike in electricity prices, a drop in energy prices, and a government subsidy of 100 billion NT dollars. Taipower employees' bonuses have sparked criticism among shareholders who have not received any dividends, while the Energy Minister expressed disagreement with government subsidies to Taipower, stating that the subsidies are meant to benefit the public at large.
