Taiwan Power Company Launches Electricity-Saving Trial Program, Offering NT$10 Rebate for 1 kWh Saved

Reported 9 months ago

Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) introduced a new electricity-saving policy, implementing a residential and commercial electricity-saving trial program from July to November, targeting households with smart home appliances and charging equipment. Participants who switch their air conditioners to fan mode or turn them off when needed by the power system can receive a rebate of NT$10 for every 1 kWh saved, with a limit of 20,000 households. The program integrates smart meters and allows users to receive a fixed monthly reduction of NT$48 in electricity bills upon signup. Taipower emphasizes that energy efficiency is vital, and voluntary participation in the program is encouraged. The initiative also involves adjusting household appliance usage habits to shift electricity consumption to off-peak hours, with the aim of reducing peak demand and offering electricity bill discounts. International experiences from other countries like the United States and Japan were considered in designing this trial program, which is conducted in collaboration with the Industrial Technology Research Institute over a span of 5 months.
