In response to an opposition party lawmaker's allegation of illegal contract extension for Mai-Liao coal-fired power plant Unit 1, Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) stated that the extension period for operating permit review is legally valid, as per air pollution regulations. Taipower emphasized that if the unit cannot obtain, renew, or extend the operating permit in the future, the contract will be terminated. Taipower also highlighted its efforts in energy transition to reduce coal usage and air pollution emissions in Taiwan.
