Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) has introduced a new energy-saving measure where households can connect their smart homes to Taipower, allowing the company to remotely control and turn off appliances like air conditioners during peak power usage times, resulting in a fixed monthly discount of 48 yuan on electricity bills. However, the public seems reluctant to participate, citing concerns such as the negligible incentive and the belief that the focus should be on solving power shortages rather than curbing consumer usage. Taipower emphasizes that participation is voluntary and users can adjust their temperatures at any time, raising questions about the effectiveness of energy conservation if users opt for maximum cooling after signing up for the trial program.
