Legislator Chang Chia-kai of the People First Party accused Taiwan Power Company of having a nighttime reserve capacity of less than 5%. Despite assurances from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Taiwan Power Company at the end of June that there would be no electricity shortages in July with over 10% reserve capacity during daytime peak hours and over 7% at night, Chang Chia-kai pointed out that on the evening of the 4th, the reserve capacity dropped to 4.78%, indicating a risk. He criticized the authorities for lying and deceiving the public, warning of a potential major blackout in July and August if the situation is not addressed seriously.
