The sixth wave of local COVID-19 outbreak in Taiwan is escalating, with the CDC spokesperson warning of an upcoming peak in mid-July, predicting 60,000 infections and 120,000 medical visits per week. The new LB.1 variant has emerged with increased transmission, comprising 14% of cases. Recent data shows a rise in cases and deaths, with LB.1 being more transmissible than KP.2 and KP.3. Although vaccines remain effective, the CDC urges the public, especially the elderly, to get vaccinated to reduce severe cases and deaths.
