Taiwan Premier Acknowledges Controversy over Average Salary of 63,000, Promises to Consider More Suitable Calculation Method

Premier Su Tseng-chang visited the Legislative Yuan for questioning and expressed the need to enhance the way average salaries are disclosed to make the figures more relatable and meaningful to the public. The Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics recently announced that the average real regular salary of all employees reached 43,133 NT dollars in the first four months of the year, with a growth rate of 0.14%. When including bonuses and overtime pay, the average total real salary was 63,482 NT dollars, with a growth rate of 1.35%. Many netizens, however, felt that the salaries were not as high, prompting discussions on alternative calculation methods. Su proposed using the median calculation to provide a more accurate representation for the public.
