On June 22, 2024, Premier of Taiwan Lai Chung-te visited injured drivers and their families at Tzu Chi Hospital in Hualien, presenting consolation money and wishing for their speedy recovery. Premier Lai Chung-te, who inspected Hualien in the morning, listened to briefings, comforted the injured in the afternoon, and decided to take a train to Hualien next month to inspect the conditions on the line in person. Minister of Transportation Li Meng-yen also apologized to the public on behalf of Taiwan Railways for the incident that caused panic and apologized for the delay in service. The incident resulted in hand fractures for the driver and minor injuries for 8 passengers, with everyone discharged except the driver. The cause of the accident was a debris flow covering the track at Daqingshui River, causing derailment and substantial delays. Taiwan Railways has been working to repair the damaged tracks and equipment and restored train services with reduced speed and minor delays.
