Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te proposed a zero-tariff framework for trade discussions with the U.S. while committing to enhance Taiwanese investment in American industries. Despite facing a 32% tariff on many exports to the U.S., Lai emphasized that Taiwan would not retaliate with similar measures and highlighted the importance of reducing trade barriers. Upcoming investments are expected from Taiwan's major firms, notably TSMC, and the government plans to explore significant agricultural, industrial, and energy purchases from the U.S. amid growing challenges from China.
