Taiwan Rail Driver with Broken Bones Undergoes Surgery, Needs at Least 1 Month to Recover

During the accident of the Taiwan Rail Train No. 229 on June 21 on its way to Hualien, the driver, surnamed Chen, sustained a severe right elbow bone fracture and underwent surgery. He is expected to undergo rehabilitation for at least a month and may need to take public sick leave. The accident occurred due to a mudslide between Chongde and Horen, causing the train to derail and injuring 9 people, including the driver. Chen, a 51-year-old driver who has been with the Taiwan Rail since 2015, will temporarily engage in administrative work while recovering.
